SAVOR JOHNSON CITY

  I’m tellin’ ya, the Texas hill country is the place to be.  There is so much going on.  Take, for instance, last night in Johnson City was the first annual Savor the Hill Country held at the Science Mill.  You know, that place that looks like an old grain mill that sits right on the corner in downtown Johnson City.  I have wanted to go to the mill for years, but, since it’s generally thought of as a learning experience for kids, I haven’t ventured in.  Has anyone ever been carded for being to old?  Anyway, Savor the Hill Country was the perfect opportunity to check the place out and sample some of the local eateries and vineyards.  Oh!  And bid on some awesome goodies—all of which went to benefit the Johnson City Chamber...

THE NIGHT TEXAS CLOSED

  The forecast is freezing weather with sleet, rain, and snow later tonight.  Only in Texas can you have a 67 degree day and plummet to the teens that night.  I, along with many others, dashed to HEB where it was a frenzy of panicked people grabbing things off the shelves like it was Armageddon.  (I’m convinced HEB pays the weather channel to broadcast sub-zero weather.). IF IT’S LUBBOCK, IT’S THE OVERTON...

And, yes, every once and a while I do get out of the hill country.  This time it was to spend Christmas in Colorado.  It usually means a two day trip and the dilemma of wondering where to pull over and break up the trip.  No need to fret anymore…….we have found a fantastic place to spend the night—-The Overton Hotel.  Now, if you are from the Lubbock area or if you have a student at Texas Tech, you’re probably saying, “What took you so long?”.  No kidding.  The hotel bills it self as “The West Texas Address for Stylish Sophistication” and touts it self as being the “first and only AAA Four-Diamond hotel in West Texas”.  Well, it’s on our flight pattern from now on.   Here are some pictures – I hope...
