BADU 1891

Jun 23, 2018 by

I’m not a food critic and this blog really isn’t a food column-but I do enjoy a well done place to go that checks all the boxes.  So, you will understand why I am so excited to tell you about a new little gem in Llano.  It’s the new restaurant called Badu 1891.  What a find!  Finally, a restaurant in our part of the Texas hill country with good food, good service, good ambiance, and a good margarita.  When you walk in the building from the Highway 16 entrance, you immediately notice the steer hide chairs and lovely art on the walls.  And not just any art.  Paintings from the artist such as Tom Dorr line the cozy walls and the longhorn over the fireplace reminds me of my favorite hotel in...

HASHTAG: LOVE A SMALL TOWN

Jun 16, 2018 by

You’ve heard me say it, “I love small towns!”  Just because a town has a small population does not mean it is small in heart, spirit, and energy.  Take the yearly ADULT SOAP BOX RACES in Marble Falls.  I’ve been posting it in the things to do list for weeks, so, don’t tell me you haven’t heard of it.  I think it’s been going on for about 8 years and has grown into a really fun event for all ages so don’t let the name “Adult” scare you—however, it could have very interesting connotations and great for a vivd imagination.  But, I digress……..back to the lively weekend of races.  The kick-off is on Friday night with a show and go parade of all the entries on Main Street.  As you can see from...

Finally, I made it to the Blanco Lavender Festival.  After all, it is on the Texas Bucket List.  For years, my Marthaty Stewartee friends have gone and gotten fresh Lavender and done all sorts of Marthaty Stewartee things with it, but for some reason I’ve never been able to go, even tho, it’s always just been down the road in the beautiful Texas Hill Country.  I cajoled Denny into going and we were in Blanco in about forty five minutes.  The Lavender Fest brochure said it started at noon on Friday and by the time we got there, about 2pm, there were a surprising amount of people.  (I can’t imagine what it’s like once the Saturday and Sunday crowds hit!)  We were able to find a shaded parking spot (remember, I’m the...

MAMBO…….. MAMBO ITALIAN-OH!!!...

Jun 2, 2018 by

What a find!             Oddly enough, we heard about it when we were eating with friends in Fredericksburg last week.  Described with superlatives, Ooooos, Ahs, and Yummy- I knew we would have to try Mambo Italiano sometime.  I hadn’t planned on it being this quickly, but my trunk latch stopped working and the Georgetown car dealership said have the car there by 9AM and they will take a looksee.  So after getting a courtesy car and running on in to The Domain, we decided to hold off eating in one of the many eateries there and gamble that Mambo is everything my friend, Linda, said it was.  She had recommended another in the area, but, Italian was calling.  So we zigzagged back through Liberty Hill and got...
