Yes, I finally stopped at the Hye Market.  Like you, I had driven by it for years—-and I mean years, as in since the seventies on my way to Kerrville.  To me, it was always a place that caused you to step off the gas pedal and slow down for a couple of miles, then kick it up as soon as you cleared the spot in the road.  But, that store facade has always been picturesque.  If I was a painter, I’d put it on a bucket list to paint.  But, back to pulling over……….for some reason on that particular day, I pulled the car over, saw the sign that said no parking and inched up to a place I thought would be safe.  I got out, went in the post office and walked...

Black Board Bar B Q, in Sisterdale, is definitely destination eating.  Unless Sisterdale is on your beaten path or you’re into beautiful Hill Country scenic drives, you’d probably never go there.  Friends had raved about it as did Texas Monthly (June 2018).  So, Denny and I decided to take the hour long drive through Johnson City, Blanco then Kendalia and see what all the buzz was about.  We got there a little past noon and were the first ones through the gate, obviously, the first customers of the day.  We were greeted by Tres who gave us the culinary crash course of the menu and it quickly became very apparent we had stepped through the looking glass of bar-b-q joints.  You could really see the owners previous food experiences coming through with such things...
