I was so excited when I saw the title, Hot Older Women, in StyleCaster.  Because I work on the theory, safety in numbers, I constantly look for articles about women my age.  Yes, I know all the cute little ways to say it, women who have matured, it’s only a number, sixty is the new forty, cougar (or like someone told me, a snow leopard)— but let’s face it it happens to us all.  It’s called aging.  So, as I was ooooing and ahhhhhing over Jessica Lange (64), Linda Rodin (65), Lauren Hutton (69), and Catherine Deneuve (70), it dawned on me I had been sucked in again.  I was comparing myself to women who are exceptional.  Exceptional.  E-X-C-E-P-T-I-O-N-A-L.  I looked up the definition and I quote “forming an exception or rare instance; unusually excellent”.  I read it again-“rare instance”.  Help me remember that.  Whether it is natural, God given, or doctored in the clinic-they are rare beauties.  I want you to know, I’m not angry.  I’m not even skeptical-anymore.  Hey, I don’t get angry when I see an exceptional piece of art.  I appreciate it when it holds my gaze.  I appreciate the work and discipline it takes to produce that masterpiece.  Woman to woman, I feel that way about the pictures of those gorgeous women—no matter what age they are, they are beautiful and rare.  Exceptional.  Please don’t ask me to go down the road of media projections on real, normal women—or young girls.  I’m too old and exhausted to take that on.  I’m comfortabley past that.  I am not getting sucked in.  One way or the other.  (Hopefully, young mothers and fathers are doing a better job these days and equipping their daughters with tools to combat that media attack.)  BUT, on the other hand, I do want to look my best when a Kodak (look it up, young ‘uns) moment occurs.  Here are a few hints, also in StyleCaster, to keep you camera ready.  I warn you the pictures are of young, skinny models but the tips are good for any age.

P.S.-for a trip back in time, watch a young Brittany Spears perform Oops, I Did It Again!
