SO NOW WHAT?

It’s Monday, the start of the first full week of the new year.  Woo Hoo—I made it through another holiday marathon.  Not that this year was a killer social season.  No get away trip, a couple of parties, had neighbors over for champagne and cake, and of course—the required bout of the crud.  All in all, a nice smooth holiday.  The decorations are all packed and sent back to the store room and it is nice to have the house back to it’s openness.  The yard art is down and people have stopped driving by.  Not that it was on the level of the Griswolds, but it was a colorful display that I’ve grown to love.  I used to be an all white Christmas light person, but those days are gone after I met Dennis.  Now, it is only colored lights for this girl.  Evidently, there are definitely two camps—so much the the New York Times wrote an article on it.  So back to this Monday morning.  It’s in the twenties outside(really cold for Texas), Dennis has left for the office, and Mitch is nestled by my side on the sofa.  I’ve made a to do list this year.  It’s a first—I’ve never made a resolution list.  I’m not looking at it as a manifesto, but more like a

shopping list that I can go to.  I want to learn Spanish, but don’t want to invest in Rosetta Stone or drive to Austin for classes.  so, I thought I’d check with a local church to see if I can help with a Spanish outreach program and learn by immersion.  I’ve also been talking about volunteering at the Marble Falls visitor’s center.  Hopefully, on Wednesdays.  And this just may be the year to sign up for the women’s golf group.  It’ll be a real shocker to Russell at the golf shop—-I’ve talked about it for years.  The other odds and ends on the list are pursuing a legal action that has been a thorn in my side for years, taking Mitch to dog classes, finally completing my Daughters of the Republic of Texas application, and walking every day.  You know, your usual New Year’s Resolution list………So, let’s see…….It’s January 5.  I’ve got three hundred and sixty days to go.  What to do first?     I think I’ll play a few hands of Mahjong on the new app I discovered and think about it.   Or maybe, call my friend Susie in Austin to go see a movie.   No need to rush into anything……….
