That’s the term my aunt used to say when the wool had been pulled over her eyes.  I think that’s happened to me.  I don’t know the exact time and it’s not just one place where it’s happened.  Evidently, it’s been a gradual thing.  It dawned on me when I was looking at a pricy dress that had a zipper on the outside of the dress that something was wrong.  The dress looked unfinished.  It looked like something my high school home economics class teacher would have tossed back in my face and told me to rip it out and start over.  I then started noticing other clothing with seams on the outside.  And hems that were just serged or worse, just chopped off.  Another big eye opener was reading an article that told...

You may remember the article, Fits Like A Glove, I wrote a few weeks ago in holahillcountry.com.  It was about women’s custom clothing sources.  Among those mentioned was PIOL, a very distinct and quality made to measure company for the women’s market.  After I finished the article, I decided to order a dress.  I had a ball designing it and was very impressed with the detail and choices of things like necklines, sleeves, length, etc.  Well, yesterday, I received the dress and I’m so excited, I couldn’t wait—I had to show you!  I ordered a basic black—-I needed a new LBD.  I wish you could see the finish and craftsmanship and it feels sooooo good.  The dresses are made in New York (team USA!) and are shipped quite quickly.  I’m sure there’s no problem...

No, the hunk doesn’t come with the boots, but Zulily is having a sale on Lucchese boots—-that’s right, our beloved National Shoe of Texas!  The sale will only last a few days, so saddle up and click here for that perfect pair of iconic boots.  BTW, take time to go to the Lucchese web page.  Not only is it beautiful, but it’s a quick read on the rich history of the Texas proud company.  One more thing, owning a pair of these boots is usually listed in top things to do if you’re a true...

If you know a very dapper man who likes to indulge in custom clothes then tell him to make an appointment at The W Hotel for a TRUNK CLUB fitting on April 8th or 9th.  Use my direct link to schedule an appointment.  And while he’s getting fitted, you can check out the cute shops on 2nd street or take in a movie at The Violet Crown Theater – soooo Austin.  You’ll be exhausted from all that shopping, so dash in for a drink and nibble at David Bull’s CONGRESS.  I just love that little area in...

I’ve seen some really good looking bangle bracelets made of snake skin.  They’re very popular now and some are quite expensive—like in the thousands.  I wish I would have known that when we found the coral snake in our living room.  That’s right—CORAL S-N-A-K-E inside the house, in the living room, under the buffet!  One morning, Mitch, the dog, started barking.  I found him in the living room barking and looking towards something under the wooden buffet by the front door.  He was very close to it and when I really got a good look, I immediately knew it was a coral snake.  I remembered the important part of the jingle “red and something, something something, red and yellow kill a fellow”.  I’m really not a scaredy cat, but you couldn’t tell it by...

I’ve been having  a hard time finding something to write about for a new article—nothing grabbed me.  Then, I happened to run across an article in Forbes by Deborah L. Jacobs about made to order clothing.  I was a little familiar with men’s made to order clothing from my brief stint with J. Hilburn, a men’s made to order clothing line that offers high quality products.  In the Forbes article, companies like Charles Tyrwhitt and Taylor Store were mentioned.  But the companies that offered made to order shoes seemed very interesting and was something totally new—-at least to me.  For instance, at Shoes of Prey, you can choose the heel, toe, fabric, embellishment and have them in about 2 weeks.  Anther cool company is Hourglass Footwear where you can design your own hand painted shoes...
