I’m just a-hunk a-hunk of burnin’ somethin…

What’s a girl gonna do?  After all—it is Texas and it is August, so you do the math.  Yep, it adds up to M-I-S-E-R-A-B-L-E in any language, especially Texan.  It’s the time of the year when the lucky ones go elsewhere—like New Mexico or Colorado or the Hudson Valley in upstate New York.  (I know, up there)  My friend, Tina, just got back from San Miguel. Denny and I are trying to hang in there till we go to La Jolla in a couple of weeks.  The thought of being in Switzerland last year about this time is just a dim memory in the back of my scorched, little brain.  When I say scorched, I know there are hotter places on earth like Death Valley or those poor people just down the road in Llano—-they are even a few degrees hotter than we are in Marble Falls.  You may ask, “How hot is it, D.J.?”  Well I’m looking at the weather forecast, that’s wedged into the Kathy Lee and Hoda Show, and it says it’s going to be one hundred and four degrees.  We have had over a week of triple digits.  But, to add insult to injury, we’ve had a little humidity.  Now, I know you people in Beaumont and Houston, where I played golf with my friend, Linda, and wondered if she could drag my limp body back to the golf cart, are thinking “you don’t know jack about humidity, schweetie”.   And my answer to that is, “Don’t wanna”.    But I digress……….back to hell or as Dennis calls it “jail time” because it’s like house arrest, you just don’t want to go outside.  To show you how house bound I have been, I’ve cleaned out both refrigerators, alphabetized the

pantry, played more Mahjong in one week that I ever thought possible and I’m now thinking about purging my closet.  You know…..what some would call indoor sports.  I will admit, I have gotten out at the crack of dawn and played golf with my friend, Nancy.  BUT, we were lucky, we had cloud coverage.  The past few days have not seen any of those puffy things in the sky.  It makes a huge difference………..Well, need I go on?  You get the picture.  I did do something yesterday that was a fun thing to do when the thermometer rises—-go to a cave!  I went to Longhorn Cavern between Marble Falls and Burnet on Park Road 4.  It was the perfect thing to do with some friends on a hot August day………..
