MAMBO…….. MAMBO ITALIAN-OH!!!

Mid afternoon is the perfect time to go. We had it all to ourselves on a week day.

What a find!

Oddly enough, we heard about it when we were eating with friends in Fredericksburg last week.  Described with superlatives, Ooooos, Ahs, and Yummy- I knew we would have to try Mambo Italiano sometime.  I hadn’t planned on it being this quickly, but my trunk latch stopped working and the Georgetown car dealership said have the car there by 9AM and they will take a looksee.  So after getting a courtesy car and running on in to The Domain, we decided to hold off eating in one of the many eateries there and gamble that Mambo is everything my friend, Linda, said it was.  She had recommended another in the area, but, Italian was calling.  So we zigzagged back through Liberty Hill and got to Bertram.  My car navigator said Mambo was on Hwy 29, but it really is just off of the highway on the road to Oatmeal (100 W Fm-243) which is a little known, beautiful country road in the Texas Hill Country.  The restaurant is in a little strip center and you have to really look for it, but boy, is it worth it.  Because, we had missed the lunch rush, we were able to visit with our waiter, Nuki, who turned out to be the owner’s nephew.  Nuki was down from Dallas helping out-as good families do.  He told us about “Uncle Al” who had migrated from Croatia to the Dallas area where he was able to open several businesses.  Being the entrepreneur, he realized the Bertram area was growing and decided to open the best place to eat in the area.  He does no disappoint.  Every thing we ordered was delicious, made with fresh ingredients and cooked perfectly.  I can’t wait to go back and order off the dinner menu.  I understand the Zuppa Di Pesce is to die for.  Oh, heads-up…..it’s BYOB…………….which we love!  Big tip: because they take no reservations, you may want to think about an early dinner or late lunch.  Linda says they start getting busy about 5:15pm on the weekend.

Stuffed mushrooms to start off

Eggplant Parmesan with a side of spaghetti. Nothing like a light lunch……….

Nuki, our waiter, is the owner’s nephew. It doesn’t hurt that he looks and sounds like Ryan Phillippe.

Walking through the door is like Alice through the looking glass.

PS-For you youngsters, there’s a song called Mambo Italiano.  Click here to see a classic rendition.
