The Texas Wine Trail isn’t just about wine.  You can mix it up with whiskey, rum, and now, beer.  And, what a beer stop the Altstadt Brewery is!  For your foreigners, it’s between Wildseed Farms (gotta do a blog on that) and Fredericksburg on Hwy 290.  You can’t miss it—-it’s the huge chalet looking building—–reeelly huge.  We met friends there to enjoy Thomas Michael Riley perform.  How fun to listen to Texas Americana Music in a Bavarian setting—as in huge beer hall, people dancing, eating delicious food, and of course, drinking mucho cold beer while laughing with friends and sitting on long tables with long benches.  Think Oktoerfest in Germany except this beer hall has huge crystal chandeliers and gorgeous Texas size fireplaces.  The cavernous hall is one of several settings at Allstadt Brewery.  There’s a seated dining area inside, an outdoor dining area in the middle of the U shaped building and a bar downstairs that’s dark and cozy with a pub feel.  Not to mention, the beautiful outdoor area in the very back where you can watch a beautiful Texas sunset.  And, they’re adding another pavilion for any special occasion you have coming up according to Brian Petricka, the Assistant Restaurant General Manager..  We decided to enjoy the wonderful spring evening and eat outside under the stars.  Our food was delicious and, of course, the beer was flowing. (For those who prefer wine, they do offer excellent wine choices.)  It was a perfect hill country night……………You must go.  Take the kids, take Grandma, or just you and your sweetie.  It really is a must stop when you’re in the Texas Hill Country.  I can’t wait to go back and have a larger.  By the way, if you can’t get to the brewery, try the Altstadt beer from you grocer’s beer case.  It’s brewed the old world way and will be perfect for the upcoming hot weather. Muy Prost!

You can’t miss it
