SNAKE “n” SHAKE

I’ve seen some really good looking bangle bracelets made of snake skin.  They’re very popular now and some are quite expensive—like in the thousands.  I wish I would have known that when we found the coral snake in our living room.  That’s right—CORAL S-N-A-K-E inside the house, in the living room, under the buffet!  One morning, Mitch, the dog, started barking.  I found him in the living room barking and looking towards something under the wooden buffet by the front door.  He was very close to it and when I really got a good look, I immediately knew it was a coral snake.  I remembered the important part of the jingle “red and something, something something, red and yellow kill a fellow”.  I’m really not a scaredy cat, but you couldn’t tell it by my scream to which Dennis came running, turned and reappeared with his 9 iron.  Oh, I wish I would have grabbed his leg when he was taking care of the beautiful, highly poisonous snake.  I’d still be laughing.  I’m sure your wondering did that leave a horrible mess?  Not really.  The stain came out very easily when we replaced the carpet with tile flooring. But the memory stayed with us for a life altering length of time.  Every time Mitch would bark, we’d jump a foot.  Not to mention, if we would see a shadowy mass on the floor.  So you ask, “How did it get there?”  NOT A CLUE!  But as our friend, Bill, says “Mitch saved your life!”.  I guess that off sets him chewing my dental flipper (see the I…taste…dead…people article).  But back to the bracelet. I actually called a taxidermist and explained I had a dead coral snake and could they make a bracelet out of it.  Made perfect sense to me.  After he stopped laughing, he said they couldn’t do it because …..mmmm, I can’t remember the details.  But, no bracelet.  And what a shame…it would have been a killer bracelet.  Get it?  Killer?
